Sketch Saturday #423

This week the Sketch Saturday challenge is sponsored by StarStampz.  Since it is the fifth Saturday of the month you can choose any sketch between #215 and last week (#422).  I've used a sketch from a few weeks back by Cathy (#416):
I have used the image 'Spring Rain' on my card.  The sentiment stamp is from Stamp'n Up and says 'Oh Happy Day'.  Thought it added a bit of humour to rain on a typical British summer day :-)

U R out of this world

I was testing out some new papers I bought at the July NEC craft show (Tonic studio) and made this card.  Think it is quite masculine seeing as the paper stack in general is meant to be floral.  Lol!  I like the bright colours and bold designs though :-)

Sketch Saturday #422

It's not my week on Sketch Saturday but I wanted to join in anyway.  This weeks sponsor is Drawn with Character.  Pop along to have a look at their images :-)
This is my card:

Hope you are inspired to join in too :-)

Football star

I was having a bit of a 'sports' theme going at one point with my card making and made this footie card:

Well Done!

It's the season for exams and exam results (or at least the A-levels and GCSE results will be out in August).  Hence I thought I'd make a few cards.  This one uses a LotV image- love their cats :-)

Back to school...

...before the term ends for most!  I'm a bit in advance but was on a roll and made a cute card for a little boy starting school in September (just need to find someone to send it to now!)
The image is from DigiStamp Boutique (of course!).

Summer Cheeky Monkey

Looking for more inspiration for this weeks Sketch Saturday challenge?  I made a second card using a mirror image of the Sketch and a DigiStamp Boutique image.

Happy Birthday Mum!

Mum asked for me to make her 'things' for her birthday, especially using my new sewing machine.  So I went to town.
1) Vintage Clutch Bag- pattern from Sew Inspired issue 3

 2) Bunting (fabric is from an old skirt!)
3) A card (well of course!).  Uses a DigiStamp Boutique image and my chicken-themed Nitwits papers (bought specially for making Mum cards as she is a fan of chickens.)
4) A 'Big Weekend' bag from the 'Learn to Sew with Lauren book.  I used fabric from Ikea for this and it is BIG!  Quite pleased with the result.  The only thing that went wrong was the zip for the hidden pocket inside ( I cut the opening too big, but it was my first attempt at that kind of zip).
 5) Two cushion covers inspired by an article in Issue 3 of 'Sew Inspired'.  These took me ages to make and were very difficult.  Not sure I like them now they are finished.  I suspect they will be put on a bed that never gets used ;-)
6) The 'Simple Summer Sleeveless' top from the learn to sew with Lauren book.  Maybe not the most fashionable fabric, but maybe it will be something to wear in the garden?  It was only for practicing anyway.  (Actually this is the second practice top as the first I made from an old duvet case was a disaster!).
7) Two more cushions.  I'm not pleased with the way these turned out.  The covers were made from Ikea fabric and a cut up pair of trousers!  I even fitted zips, but best not say much more about that....  (nearly another disaster!)
Do you think that will do???  I doubt Mum bargained on getting all these things ;-)  Happy Birthday x

Sketch Saturday #421

This week the Sketch Saturday challenge is sponsored by the fabulous Happy Print Club.
It's been a while since I used this Space set from DigiStamp Boutique but I thought it would go perfectly with some new papers I bought (I say 'new' but I got them a while a go in a sale on line and they hadn't been cut into until I made this card) and this sketch.

Happy Birthday

I went to town on this card and made it bright and cheerful (hopefully) for a child's birthday.  These cheeky monkey images from DigiStamp Boutique are so fun and never fail to cause me to smile :-)

Bookworm

I have been making quite a few 'school'-themed card recently and remembered I had this super bookworm DigiStamp Boutique image and so just had to make another card:

Happy Retirement

What can be better than a bunch of flowers when you retire?  Family friends have decided to retire this month together (they are married).  Not a given as there is a 5 year age difference and so the younger doesn't 'have' to go yet.  Anyway, I wanted to send a card.  I know the first months/year of retirement can be a difficult adjustment (from watching my parents and others).  Hoping theirs goes well and is enjoyable :-)

Star Pupil

It is nearly time for exam results and school reports (or maybe some of the younger children have already had them?).  This school teddy set was on offer in DigiStamp Boutique and so I bought it the other day.

Murray Mania

To celebrate Andy Murray winning at Wimbledon I made this card:

Sweet birdie wedding

It's been a while since I have used any of the images from this little birdie set from DigiStamp Boutique but I found them when trawling through my hard drive and thought I'd make a wedding card.

The card follows the current Sweet Sketch Wednesday layout.

70th Birthday

I got asked to make a 70th birthday card for someone to give to their sister.  I wasn't quite sure what they would like.  I hope this fits the bill.

On a roll making anniversary and wedding cards I found this image and make a card:

Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mum and Dad got invited to a Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration this month and I was asked if I would make a card for them.  Hope this goes down well:

Fabric Wreathes

I made a fabric decorated polystyrene wreath about a year ago while I was in hospital and really enjoyed it.  Since joining the Country Market at Bentley Heath I have been wondering if I should have a go at making a few more.  (Only so many wreathes you can have for yourself!)  So when I did my last wool order from Woolwarehouse (super store- I highly recommend it if you want wool online), I added three wreathes to my basket.
What to decorate them with?  Last time I had lots of ex-John Lewis fabric swatches to play with- sturdy material which was perfect for making the flowers.  This time I had to use scraps in my fabric supply, plus a few items of clothing which I had been worn to the end (t-shirts).
This is the smallest wreath (20cm diameter):
As well as the rolled roses I have made in the past, I made a felt flower and a gathered rose (slightly different method).
For this wreath (25cm diameter) I went with a purple theme.  The grey material is from a t-shirt (as was the yellow/white and orange/white striped material in the first wreath).  Being larger I added more buttons and some gems to this one.

My third and final wreath resembles a haberdashery store slightly!  I got a 1kg of buttons from the Works and went a bit mad!  Lots of different fabrics in this one, plus yarn scraps.

White Wedding

I always think that white on white works well for wedding cards.  Ok, I seem to have included silver on this card, but it is almost white-on-white ;-)

Sketch Saturday #419

This weeks Sketch Saturday challenge is sponsored by Sami Stamps.  I just love their designs, especially the cat ones :-)
I used 'Sunflower Kitty' on my card. The sentiment is a Stamp'n up stamp which says 'Bloomin' Marvelous'.  Thought it put a bit of humour on the card.
Hope you have been inspired to join in this week.
